Tre Jones entered the 2017 circuit with some lofty expectations, and the Howard's Pulley floor general met them with ease in Hampton.

Taking over for Gary Trent Jr. as the feature piece for the Panthers, Jones played better than ever, including a 15-assist performance against Mac Irvin. This year is different for Jones, and he's approaching it as such.

"Last year, we had a ton of talent," Jones said. "I feel like we can't match the talent we had last year, but we can definitely match our defensive effort. This year, we have an athletic, defensive team, and that's how we're going to win our games."

Defense sparks the Panthers, but Jones' passing ability sets them apart. If he keeps up this pace, he will undoubtedly chase Quade Green's assist record from 2016.

At this point it's fair to say Jones is criminally underrated if he's not in the top 25 of national player rankings. It's safe to say his assist numbers will remain eye-popping, especially since he said his Panthers have only been practicing together for three weeks.

"We've all known each other for a couple years, most of the other guys played 16s last year," Jones said of the team chemistry.

"The guys are easy to get along with and we've gelled pretty well so far."

"It's only going to get better."
