De’Aaron Fox almost made us change our mind, but Gary Trent’s performance was simply too good to turn down. The Howard Pulley sophomore became the EYBL’s leading scorer after EYBL Houston, due in large part to his big game against the Travelers. Shooting 14-for-21 from the field and 8-for-12 from distance, Trent Jr. scored 43 points and grabbed six rebounds in a win over the Travelers. Craziest part? He only played 21 minutes. Trent Jr. figures to have just about every high-major school after him, leading the EYBL in scoring as an underclassman is no joke. Check out the full boxscore.

Cali Supreme has won seven of their last eight, due in large part to the stellar play of their backcourt. Josh Hall caught fire in Houston, averaging 18.0 points, 7.8 rebounds while shooting 66% from the floor. His partner in crime, Jonah Mathews, also impressed on the offensive end, putting up 18.8 points per game and displaying impressive defense. Supreme has a talented, balanced lineup – one that will only be more dangerous with consistent production from Hall and Matthews.

This game was an absolute war. Both teams feature tremendously talented lineups, and both took each other’s best punch. The highest scoring game of the session took overtime to decide, as fans were treated to an offensive display from both squads. King James ended up prevailing over a stubborn Team Final squad 103-97, using an explosive overtime session to create enough distance for the win. Both of these squads figure to make noise in Peach Jam, as we hope to see this matchup again come July.

Several teams played fantastic in Houston, but BABC surpassed all expectations by finishing 4-0. Like usual, Leo Papile’s squad created havoc on the defensive end, applying their patented 2-2-1 and 2-1-2 full court press. Their opponents were visibly exhausted after having to deal with the constant pressure, as Papile’s grind-it-out, fundamentally sound style of play has never looked better. Three-year EYBL veteran Bruce Brown has never looked better, providing a consistent scoring punch while elevating the level of play of his teammates. Wins over Mac Irvin and the Oakland Soldiers all but cement BABC’s status as Peach Jam contenders, and their style of play should continue to give opponents fits.

Leondre Washington made his EYBL debut in Houston, and he made a memory that will last a while. Tied with the City Rocks with seconds remaining, Washington drove the left alley and put up a floater, banking in the game-winner as time expired.
