Brad Davison is a high-major basketball prospect.

Hopefully after his set of performances in Hampton, any debate questioning that statement is now over.

Entering Hampton, the 6-foot-4 Davison was leading the entire NIKE EYBL in offensive rating according to Group Stats, recording a 156.0 - almost 13 points higher than the next closest player. That rating is notoriously closely-contested, so for Davison to lead by such a large margin while playing over 75% of his team’s minutes, is staggering. Davison was also the EYBL’s most effective shooter. In seven games, Davison was 31/54 from the floor, shooting 72% from inside the arc and 48% from distance.

Then came Session 3, and Davison managed to improve his already staggering numbers across the board.

In four games, Davison averaged 21.8 points. 6.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals, leading the injury-riddled Panthers to another perfect EYBL session. Playing most of the session with only six healthy players, Pulley desperately needed someone to lift their game. Davison did that, and much more.

Davison put Pulley on his back during their overtime win over a stacked California Supreme squad, and it was chocked full of theatrics. Trailing by double-digits to open the second half, Davison alternated three-balls with teammates, knocking down three from distance as Pulley stormed back. Davison saved his best for last, drilling a deep three to tie the game in the closing moments, followed by his final-minute heroics.

Trailing by three with seconds remaining, Davison triggered a three from the right elbow, drawing contact from his defender, prompting a whistle. Like he’s done it 100 times, Davison calmly stepped up to the line and knocked down all three free throws. The game was tied, and with only five players, Pulley was set to head to OT.

Davison’s dominance continued in overtime, constantly attacking the basket while hitting two more free throws. By the time the Panthers left with the victory, Davison had racked up an impressive stat line: 37 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds 2 steals. It was the most impressive performance of Davison’s career, and his encore was nearly as eye-popping; recording 25 points, 6 rebounds 2 assists and 2 steals in a gritty win over King James.

Starring alongside Gary Trent Jr. in Howard Pulley’s backcourt, the two-year EYBL vet Davison has enjoyed himself a spectacular summer to date. Strong, smart and capable of playing both backcourt positions, Davison is a rare breed of basketball prospect from Minnesota.

The Panthers are currently 29-0 on the grassroots season, including a perfect 7-0 EYBL record through two sessions. Winning is obviously the most important part of playing any sport, and Davison has been extremely impressive individually while leading his squad to an undefeated record.

He hasn’t slowed up outside of the EYBL. The Panthers took home the Jayhawk Invitational three weeks ago, going 6-0 while dismantling their competition. Davison scored in double-figures in four of six games, dishing out over 20 assists and collecting 15 steals. He saved his best for last, putting up 21 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds in the Championship game over TNE.

Pulley returned to action two weekends ago, hosting the Howard Pulley Invitational in Davison’s hometown of Maple Grove, Minnesota. With Trent missing the tournament due to a calf injury, the Panthers needed someone to step up in order to keep their undefeated record alive.

Davison answered the bell.

The Panthers went 6-0 for the second consecutive weekend, with Davison averaging 20.3 points and 4.8 assists while scoring in double-figures in every win. There were numerous stretches in which Davison shined as the brightest star on a squad full of stars, but it’s the combination if his talents, demeanor and competitiveness that truly makes Davison special. Once again, Davison saved his best for last, delivering 26 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds in the Championship win over KC Run GMC - a squad that is 7-1 in the Under Armour Association.

More than athletic enough for the high-major level, Davison exhibits intangibles that every coaching staff at the next level is looking for. He plays tremendous on-ball defense, never stops moving on offense, operates well within an offensive system and competes as hard as any guard on the circuit. He isn’t afraid to talk some smack, and exemplifies an energy that lifts up his teammates - both emotionally and statistically.

On top of that, Davison is strong, and he’s an athlete. A dual-sport athlete operating as the starting quarterback on the Crimson’s varsity football squad, Davison truly is the ultimate competitor. He hates to lose, and loves winning. After breaking it down, Davison has a game and statistical output that speaks for itself. So what’s the disconnect?

Word on the street is that some programs don’t think he can play point guard. That is too silly to address, for one main reason - Davison led the state of Minnesota in assists in 2015-16. 

So why have high-major programs fallen on deaf ears?

Truthfully, I have no idea. NC State woke up on Sunday, joining Nebraska as the second high-major program to offer Davison. More will start to roll in, that is a certainty.

Why?

Because Brad Davison is a can’t-miss high-major prospect.

Hampton made that a no-brainer.
