Meet Brad Davison

Clint Jackson | Recruiting Analyst

Covering the spring and summer AAU circuit is one of the most enjoyable parts of being a recruiting analyst. Seeing a prospect take his game to another level, however, is special.

One prospect that had an explosive weekend in the third leg of the Nike EYBL circuit in Hampton was 2017 point guard/shooting guard Brad Davison from Howard Pulley (Minnesota), the only unbeaten squad left in the circuit.

After his sensational 37-point performance in a last second win over California Supreme Elite, Devils Illustrated spoke with the 6-foot-3 junior.

Devils Illustrated: You just had one of the best individual performances that we've seen in a couple of years. The last second heroics, your team won and you had 37 points.

Davison: “I didn't realize that. I was just trying to win."

Devils Illustrated: Was this the real Brad Davison? Was that game an anomaly? Tell us about yourself.

Davison: "I've been working really hard this summer, just trying to become more consistent with my game. And that game, I had to step up because Tre Jones was out and he's such a huge part of our team. So we all just had to step up and pull ourselves together as a team and we got the win."

Devils Illustrated: So, Tre is normally the point guard, even though you looked so natural in that position while he was out. So you generally play off the ball for this team?

Davison: “Yes, he is our one and I play the two and J.R. (Gary Trent Jr) plays the three."

Devils Illustrated: Do you play point guard for your high school team?

Davison: “Yes sir."

Devils Illustrated: So you are a guy who is comfortable in both guard spots?

Davison: “Yes sir. I can play both spots. But for my high school team I do play the point guard. It's a little different for me having to play off the ball in AAU. Not having the ball in my hands and having to move without the ball. But I really enjoy it. Tre is a really good point guard so he finds us and makes the team run."

Brad Davison likely brought his stock up from the mid-major level to the high-majors over the weekend.

Devils Illustrated: You're looking me eye-to-eye here, so you are about 6-foot-3 and pretty well put together. What do you weigh?

Davison: “About 195-pounds."

Devils Illustrated: So offers. Let's talk about who has already offered you.

Davison: "I have 17 offers right now. Schools like Harvard, Davidson, Dayton, Yale, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, South Dakota and a bunch of others."

Devils Illustrated: A lot of mid-majors. And many of them might have been evaluating you as a two-guard. But you showed that point guard is where you might be best evaluated as. Do you feel that you can play at the high major level?

Davison: “Absolutely I do. Yes sir. I have been working really hard to be able to play at every level. I am really blessed with all of the offers that I have, though."

Devils Illustrated: What other schools are showing interest, maybe at the high level?

Davison: “Some schools that I am hearing from at the high major level are Stanford, Wisconsin, NC State. I can't control that so I am going to just keep playing hard and keep our winning streak going. So I am going to control what I can and we will see what happens."

Devils Illustrated: Well, actually you can control some of that. Since I write for Rivals, I am going to put those quotes out there to see and I have a feeling that after this performance, you might have some new schools calling. Especially ones that now realize you can play the point guard position so well.

Davison: “I’d like to hear from anyone. I just want to see who is out there."

Devils Illustrated: Describing who you play like, some will say Aaron Craft. I can see some Makai Mason from Yale in there. Who do you think?

Davison: "I've heard Aaron Craft a lot. Sometimes I hear Jon Scheyer a little bit because I can play the one and the two and shoot the ball."

Devils Illustrated: Some of the things we notice about you are your confidence and toughness. And you are very aggressive. Is that how you'd describe your game? Would aggressive do it justice?

Davison: “Very aggressive and confident in myself. For me it's my will to win. I just want to win, no matter what. If the game is close, I am just going to try to get the ball in my hands and be confident with it."
